Shabbat, 16 November 2013

For some reason, I was tired and just slept in this morning, so no morning exercise.

I forgot to mention in yesterday's post that it was my birthday, but maybe it's just as well. You see, I was actually born in California around 6:00 p.m. on the 15th which here in Israel would be around 4 a.m. on the 16th. Putting that together with the fact that the earth actually takes about 365 and a quarter days to go around the sun, I deduce that I actually completed my 61st such trip sometime around 10 a.m. this morning, local time. So there!

We had intended to take a drive to Mitzpe Ramon this morning, but David's bowels had other ideas, forcing us to turn around before even making it up to the first checkpoint on highway 12. Perhaps it's just as well, since I then was able to get more work done on my project. In fact, I thinks it's just about finished now, though I won't submit it until tomorrow so that I'll have a few more chances to listen to it.

The project is our 4th assignment for my online class, Introduction to Programming for Musicians and Digital Artists. For this one, we were required, among other things, to use the mixolydian mode, to use functions, and to use a tempo of 100 beats per minute. I chose to do a setting of the Dreidl Song, a popular chanukah song in the U.S. My arrangements includes a countermelody and a simple bass line that begin before the main melody. It also has a bit of percussion using samples.

We ate lunch today at the Aroma in the south beach area of town. Although we have, of course, eaten many times at Aromas around the country, we had never eaten at this particular one before.

In the afternoon, we talked with David's sister in Ohio and then drove down to Ice Park for frozen yogurt.
