Friday, 23 January 2015

I got up early this morning and walked over to feed Moshe's cats and check on them. This was the first time I had met his newest one, a beautiful and very sweet calico who actually is mostly white.

Later, before breakfast, I walked down to recycle cardboard boxes, buy a few more packets of individual soup mixes, and get challah for Shabbat.

I taught only one 2-unit Berlitz lesson today: 11:00-12:30.

We had lunch at Il Pentolino.

As the light began to fade this evening, we lit candles, sipped a bit of wine, and ate a little challah to welcome the Shabbat Queen.

התנערי! מעפר קומי! לבשי בגדי תפראתך, עמי
על-יד בן-ישי, בית הלחמי, קרבה אל-נפשי גאלה

Shake yourself off! Rise up from the dust! Dress in your glorious outfit, my people!
At hand is the Son of Jesse, the Bethlehemite, my soul's redemption is approaching.

[4th stanzas of L'cha Dodi, the medieval poem, written in Tsfat, greeting the arrival of Shabbat]
