I slept very well last night but didn't get up early enough to go out for a walk. I DID get 2 loads of laundry done, though, before leaving for Be'er Sheva.
I taught just one 2-unit class for Berlitz today: 9:00-10:30. After that, I immediately hopped in the car and drove up to Be'er Sheva (it takes just over 2.5 hours).
When I got to David's ward, I saw him right away, and he was in a very good mood. Today, he was also able to see quite well! In talking more with him, though, it became clear that he is still quite confused, although he doesn't really realize it. He thought he had been there much more than the actual day and a half, and he told me he had been in some very nice place. He also had stories about a prisoner walking right by him in chains. Perhaps the police story is partly true, but I have no idea what actually happened to him, and I didn't even try to ask anyone there. I did talk to the doctor who was on afternoon duty (and who, by the way, was drop-dead gorgeous!), but he hadn't been there before, so he knew very little about David and what had been done or not. He was very friendly and nice, though!
Just before I left, they brought supper for David, and I was happy to see that he ate all of it except half of one small potato that he gave to me and, of course, the wretched white bread! Even I didn't want that!
I drove home via Dimona and the Arava. It may be slightly longer that way, but it's less curvy and much less up-and-down. It's the route all the trucks take. I took it partly for variety but also because I wanted to be on more-traveled roads in case I had any more car trouble (which I didn't). It was kind of cool, too, to see the Dead Sea area at night.

Wednesday and Thursday, 29 and 30 January 2014
After my one class yesterday (Wednesday, 10:30-12:00), I took David over to the Maccabi nurses because of his severe depression. The nurse got the doctor to write a letter sending him to the ER at the Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva. So after lunch, we headed for there.
Of course there was LOTS of waiting, as there always is in a busy ER. They discovered that the sodium level in his blood was VERY low (even lower than his usual, which is already below the normal range), so they admitted him to an internal medicine ward instead of the psychiatric hospital. All of this took so long, though, that I didn't leave Be'er Sheva until nearly 4:00 a.m.!
About halfway through the drive back, the "check engine" light came on in the car, smack in the middle of the desert. I could see, though, that the engine was NOT overheating. In fact, it was running so cool that the heater wasn't working very well. So I continued home without incident, arriving here just after 6:30. Of course, I headed to bed as fast as I could. But I also had to get up to take the car into the mechanic well before my first class, which was at 2:30. They checked it but found nothing wrong. They told me to come back if it happens again, and they charged me nothing.
When I tried to call David in the morning, the hospital would NOT let me talk with him because their phone is not supposed to be used for such things. I was quite frustrated about that, naturally, since David did NOT have his cell phone with him (we had thought he would be in the pysch hospital, where a phone might easily get stolen, so we had left it at home).
After my 2:30 class finished (at 4:00), I tried to call him again, hoping to at least have them give him a message. Instead, they told me that he had been released! To the police! They refused to give me any more details, not even the telephone number of the police. I immediately wrote to Berlitz to cancel my 5:00 class so that I could find David.
I found a number on the internet for the Be'er Sheva police, but it just rang and rang until it finally quit and hung up. After many calls to the emergency police number (100) and several other numbers, I was unable to find out anything about him, so, quite frantic, I headed down to the local police station to file a missing person report. The policewoman there was VERY nice and took the situation very seriously. After some calling around, she eventually found out that David was, in fact, still hospitalized in the same ward at Soroka (or maybe re-hospitalized there?).
I came back home and called again, and this time I was able to talk to David. He seemed okay, but I think there's a bit more to the story that I'll be able to find out from him tomorrow when I go up there to visit him and we go for a walk away from the ward. Hmmm.....
In any case, between the extreme lack of sleep last night, and the anxiety about David today, I'm pretty worn out. At least I was able to do virtually ALL of the police calls etc. in Hebrew and to communicate successfully enough to get done what needed to be done. My Hebrew isn't very correct or fluent sometimes, but I'm finally able to manage, even in fairly difficult situation!

I slept well but still woke up too late this morning to go for a walk. I think I'm still battling some sort of sinus problem or maybe even a cold. Anyway, I feel fine -- I'm just sleeping a bit more.
This morning we went to the weekly WIZO (Women's International Zionist Organization) meeting, and it was quite nice. A couple of lovely American grandmothers who are sisters, originally from New York, but who now live in a suburb of Jerusalem, read us some of the things they had written and told us about their lives. It was really very nice.
We ate lunch at Buddha Burgers today. David had hummus with vegan shwarma, and I had a vegan shwarma burrito, both delicious, of course.
I taught only 4 units of Berlitz lessons today: 3:00-4:30 and 5:00-6:30. Afterwards, we drove down to Ice Park for frozen yogurt, but David didn't feel up to walking around the mall, so we just came back home after we had finished eating.
David has been feeling depressed lately, and tomorrow it's likely that we'll have to do something about that. I'll try to keep you posted.

Monday, 27 January 2014
Not so surprisingly, given the amount of driving yesterday, I slept in this morning and didn't get out for a walk.
I taught only 4 units of Berlitz lesson today: 9:00-10:30 and 11:00-12:30. But I had my annual General Performance Review from 2:15-2:55, so we ate lunch at home. The GPR went much better than I had expected, and so I'm happy about that.
In the afternoon, David and I did a shopping trip (although he actually just stayed in the car). We went to the pharmacy to pick up some additional meds that they had had to order, next to the gas station by the airport to fill up (we had wanted to get the car washed, too, but the carwash was closed), then to the pet store for cat litter (called simply חוֹל khol, "sand", here!), and finally to Shufersal for the weekly grocery shopping.
In the early evening, we drove down to Ice Park for frozen yogurt and a walk around the mall for exercise.

Sunday, 26 January 2014
I didn't get up very early this morning and so didn't get out for a walk.
Today was taken up by yet another trip to MaccabiDent at the Asuta Hospital in Tel Aviv. Next week there is no appointment, but the following week we go back up there again (for at least 2 more weeks in a row).
When I got into the underground parking garage, I parked farther from the elevators than I should have. I just grabbed the first empty spot I found on the lowest level, but there were others much closer. As a result, by the time we got upstairs David was tired and he needed to pee quite urgently even though we had stopped at the last rest area. After the restroom, he almost didn't make it to the cafe where we ate lunch. He also had trouble with the short walk to the dental office, and when he got there, he got so addled that he missed the chair and ended up sitting on the floor. Some guys rushed over to help, though, and we quickly got him up into the chair. Luckily, our dentist was running a little late, so David had time to relax a bit before we were called in.
After the appointment, David was having a lot of trouble walking again and had stopped near the elevators to lean on the wall. A very nice lady came by and asked if we needed help. I asked if we could get a wheelchair, and she set about finding one, but not until bringing a regular chair over for David to sit in. When she returned a bit later with the wheelchair, she took us to the main desk and asked them to get an orderly to take David down to the car in the wheelchair, which they did. Israel is so GREAT for genuinely helpful people!
We made it back home shortly after 7:00 p.m. and both felt very happy to be back!

Shabbat, 25 January 2014
I woke up early, got up, walked to the gym, had a good work-out, and walked home. It was great!
I did a lot more work on my ChucK harmonizer program. Now it can accept strings of characters for the given melody and bass notes, making input quite a bit easier. This turned out to be quite a bit more difficult for me to do in ChucK that I thought it should be.
In the middle of the day, we drove down and visited the Undersea Observatory Park. In the early morning, David had been able to see quite well, but by the time we got to the park, he had almost no vision. Nevertheless, we were able to take the elevator down to the undersea observatory, and he could barely see some of the fish. Afterwards, I walked around the park a bit while David rested, and then we ate lunch at the restaurant directly above the observatory (out a short distance from the shore). The food was quite good and not very expensive, but the service was very slow.
We talked with David's sister in Ohio and found out that she is once again in the hospital. She's feeling quite a bit better now, though, and expects to get out tomorrow.
Finally, we drove down to ice park for frozen yogurt and a walk around the mall. David was only able to make it around once.

I had some trouble getting to sleep last night and so didn't get up very early this morning. I did have time, though, to walk down to recycle the cardboard and buy challah for Shabbat.
I taught only 2 units of Berlitz today: 9:00-10:30.
After that, I had to go to the pharmacy to get our monthly supply of meds. It was complicated by the fact that the prescriptions I had had run out of their validity period, and the ones for next month had not yet ENTERED theirs. So I had to go to the doctor to get new ones. Our regular doctor wasn't in today, but the other doctor there did it for me without any problems. Surprisingly, there were very few people at the pharmacy when I got there, so I was able to do everything quite quickly in MUCH less time than I had feared.
We ate our traditional Friday lunch at Il Pentolino today. It was especially nice to go out to eat today, since we hadn't been able to for the previous two days.
I watched all the lectures for the next week of my class "Write Like Mozart" today (which just became available), so I'm way ahead of the game there. I do still have to do the exercise for the week, though, but it won't be very hard.
Just before sundown this evening, we lit candles, sipped some sweet red wine, and ate challah to welcome the Shabbat queen.
I continued tweaking my ChucK classical harmonization program today. In particular, I fixed a problem with handling diminished chords. I also finished putting in comments to describe what the program and its various subroutines do.

Thursday, 23 January 2014
I slept well until about 1:10 last night, but after that not very well, and I really don't know why. In any case, I didn't get up early enough for any walking.
I taught 10 units of Berlitz lessons today: 10:00-11:30, 12:00-1:30, 2:30-4:00, 5:00-6:30, and 7:00-8:30.
We ate lunch at home again today due to the relative short time we had for it.
I made a few minor tweaks to my ChucK classical harmonization program today (relaxing the rules slightly but staying within what is permissible in the style) and began putting good comments into the code about how it works. I even got it to work on one tune that it couldn't do before.

I woke up nice and early, so I got up, walked to the gym, had a good work-out there, and walked back. It was great!
We drove down to Ice Park in the late morning, ate frozen yogurt, and walked twice around the mall. David's legs did well today, and he was also able to see quite a bit. We aren't getting too excited, though, because his vision has returned and gone away again several times already.
I taught 8 units of Berlitz lessons today: 12:00-1:30, 2:45-4:15, 4:15-5:45, and 6:00-7:30.
We had vegetarian weenies wrapped in whole wheat tortillas for lunch at home today.

I managed to get up early enough this morning for a walk to the highway 12 kikar and back.
We went to the WIZO meeting this morning, where we enjoyed talking with several people and watching an interesting presentation on the history of vaudeville.
After the meeting, we drove down to Ice Park for lunch at Café Café. David had Italian shakshuka, and I had a small Greek-style sandwich. Afterwards, we walked once around the mall for exercise.
A social worker came over today just before my 2:30 lesson. She comes from a program that is trying to set up activities for people with serious disabilities that will allow them to meet each other and to do interesting things together. It is expected to start in about 1 month, and we hope that David will be able to participate in it.

After 4:00, we drove back down to Ice Park for frozen yogurt and another walk around the mall.
I made some additional small modifications to my ChucK classical-style harmonization program today. Mostly, I was working on making it easy to enter data for different pieces I might want to harmonize.

Monday, 20 January 2014
Last night, we were both very tired after the long trip, so we actually went to bed a little early and quickly fell fast asleep. Around 2:30 a.m., I woke up enough to notice that David was not in bed, and something made me sit up to look into the bathroom. Even without my glasses, I could see that something was not right, so, of course, I immediately put them on and got up to investigate. Sure enough, David was on his back on the floor, with his feet near the toilet and his head against the door. He wasn't hurt, though, so it was just a matter of trying to get him around so that he could get himself up, which he eventually did. We do NOT know how long he had lain there after falling -- I hadn't even heard him get out of bed. In any case, all was well, and we both slept quite well for the rest of the night. I did NOT, however, get up early, so I didn't get any walk in.
I taught 8 units of Berlitz lesson today: 9:00-10:30, 12:00-1:30, 2:30-4:00, and 6:00-7:30.
We ate lunch at home because we had only an hour.
We drove down to Ice Park after 4:00, had frozen yogurt, and walked once around the mall for exercise. That was all David's leg could manage for today.
In the evening, after my last class, I zipped over to Shufersal to do the weekly grocery shopping.

I got up early enough this morning to walk to the highway 12 kikar and back. This was really pretty good, since our schedule was pushed about a half-hour earlier than usual so that we could get a good early start on our trip.
We left the house just before 8:00 a.m. and arrived at Asuta in Tel Aviv at about 12:30. This gave us plenty of time to eat lunch at the Arcaffe there before David's dental appointment at 1:30.
After his appointment, we drove back home, arriving here just before 7:00 p.m.

Shabbat, 18 January 2014
I got up early this morning, walked to the gym, went on the cross-trainer for a bit, and walked back home.
This morning, I helped David use his Braille writer to "type" the Braille alphabet so that he can review it. In the process, I also learned how to operate the Braille writer myself.
I watched the rest of the videos for week 3 of my class "Write Like Mozart" and also did the (very easy) homework assignment.
We ordered lunch delivered from Barbis today: soyaburgers.
We talked briefly with David's sister in Ohio this afternoon. She and her husband are actually away from their home, visiting some of his high school classmates.
Just before sunset, we drove up the Arava as far as Kibbutz Ktura and then turned around and came back. We drove directly to Ice Park, where we had frozen yogurt and walked one time around the mall.
I spent most of the rest of the day working on my harmonization program. It now seems to produce really nice results, so I'm quite happy with it!

I woke up early this morning and walked all the way to the gym and back. Then, a little later, also before breakfast, I walked down to recycle the cardboard and buy challah for Shabbat at the bakery.
I taught only one 2-unit class today: 11:00-12:30. However, the student had to leave early (and told me so at the very beginning), so we actually quit at 12:00.
We had our traditional Friday lunch at Il Pentolino today.
I worked on extending my harmonization program to handle inverted chords (in addition to ones in root position). It works OK now, but some of its voice-leading is legal but awkward, so that's my next project for improving it.
We lit candles, drank a sip of sweet red wine, and ate challah to welcome the Shabbat just before the sun began to fade from the mountains across the valley. Pascal (our mostly-black cat) joined us, as is his tradition (OK, he's really after the rolled oats and the seeds from the challah!), and even Katom (our American cat with the Hebrew name) wandered through for a bit but seemed quite uninterested.
This evening, we took a short drive up the Arava as far as Be'er Ora, and then I watched the first 5 video lectures for week 3 of my class "Write Like Mozart". Now we're getting more into chord progressions and typical patterns, a topic I'm less familiar with.

I slept well last night but still was tired this morning and didn't get up until late.
I taught 8 units of Berlitz lessons today: 10:00-11:30, 12:00-1:30, 5:00-6:30, and 7:00-8:30 (no back-to-back lessons!).
We ate lunch today at Café Café. David had penne with a dried tomato and mushroom sauce, and I had their Café Café salad. Afterwards, we walked once around the mall, which was all David was up to.

This morning I got up slightly late but I felt good and so still managed to walk to the highway 12 kikar and back.
I taught 10 units of Berlitz lessons today (7.5 hours): 9:00-10:30, 10:30-12:00, 12:00-1:30, 2:30-4:00, and 6:00-7:30.
Since we only had an hour for lunch, we ate vegetarian weenies wrapped in whole-wheat tortillas.
Between 4:00 and 6:00 we drove down to Ice Park for frozen yogurt and a couple of times around the mall for exercise. David's legs really hurt him, and he almost didn't make it. We had to rest for a bit at one point not too far from the end. But he made it!

Last night I discovered that I had run out of Coldex pills, which help keep my sinus problems under control at night. Perhaps because of this, I woke up this morning with a headache and just generally not feeling very well. It was bad enough that I didn't even eat breakfast, except for a cup of coffee. Skipping breakfast is VERY rare for me! I took some ibuprofen with my coffee and then took some more a while later. I did gradually begin feeling better.
My first order of business was to get the flat tire on our car fixed. It took a little calling around, but I was able to speak and understand enough Hebrew to get it all done. Luckily, it was a simple puncture that they were able to repair.
In fact, I got that all done before 10:00, but I still wasn't feeling quite up to going to the WIZO meeting, as we had planned.
On the way to lunch, I stopped at the pharmacy to pick up more Coldex pills so that, hopefully, this won't happen again. Then we continued to Ice Park, where we ate lunch at Chooka, had frozen yogurt for dessert, and walked around the mall for exercise.
I taught 6 units of Berlitz lessons today: 2:30-4:00, 5:00-6:30, and 7:00-8:30.

I had trouble getting to sleep last night, and so naturally I did not wake up early this morning. I hope that, as a result, I'll be tired enough to fall asleep quickly tonight and thereby get up early and get a walk in tomorrow morning.
I taught 8 units of Berlitz lessons today: 9:00-10:30, 12:00-1:30, 3:30-5:00, and 6:00-7:30. Two of these were classes of students who work for the WHO (World Health Organization). In the first class were a woman in Libya, a woman in Serbia, and a woman in Congo who is originally from Naples, Italy. In the second class were a woman from Italy who works in Geneva, Switzerland, and a woman from Belarus who works in Bonn, Germany.
We were planning to go out to lunch today, but when we got out to the car we discovered that the left front tire was completely flat! I didn't have time to do anything about it today, but I've now got my work cut out for me for tomorrow morning. At any rate, we ate beans and weenies and coleslaw at home for lunch today.
I got my ChucK program for classical-style harmonization successfully working today! I give it the melody, the chords, the bass notes (which must be the roots of the chords in this version), the scale notes of the key, and the lengths of the notes, and the program correctly fills in the inner parts (alto and tenor), following the rules of classical harmony. When it has calculated all the notes, it prints them out and also plays the piece, using the Mandolin that is built into the language. Next task: to extend to work with chords that are NOT in root position.

I again didn't get up into for morning exercise. Hopefully, I'll get back to it soon.
We had an appointment with the Maccabi social worker today, but she wasn't able to be of much help with things we need the most. She did, however, verify that we should be able to receive reimbursement for travel expenses to the HIV clinic (which we probably should have been receiving from the beginning, but whatever).
We then ate lunch at Buddha Burgers. David had barley soup and bread, I had a roast beef burrito, and we split a piece of cheese cake.
I did the weekly grocery shopping at Shufersal in the mid-afternoon. They had a really good sale on some nice hoodies (25.40 shekels instead of about 90), so I bought a couple of them.
In the early evening, we drove down to Ice Park for frozen yogurt and a couple of walks around the mall for exercise.
Most of the rest of the day I spent working on my ChucK program for doing classical-style harmonization. It's coming along but certainly not finished yet.

Shabbat, 11 January 2014
I got up too late this morning for a walk again.
We went for a drive around the short loop just before lunch this morning. When we returned to Eilat, we drove to Ice Park, hoping to eat at Landwer Café, but the tables they used to have down by the ice rink are gone now, and this means that all of their tables can only be accessed by going up or down quite a number of stairs. David can't do that very well at all at this point, so we couldn't eat there. Instead, we came back home and ordered soyaburgers from Barbis.
In the afternoon, we talked with David's sister in Ohio and were happy to hear that she's doing much better.
In the evening, we drove back down to Ice Park, ate frozen yogurt, and walked around the mall a couple of times for exercise.
I spent most of the rest of the day working on a ChucK program to harmonize according to classical rules. I made quite a bit of progress, I think, but there's still much work to be done.

We let the cats stay in the house last night since it was actually raining outside at bedtime. I feared that our sleep might be quite disrupted, but, actually, they were very good and caused us essentially no trouble. I still didn't get up early enough to go for a walk, but I DID walk down to recycle the cardboard and buy challah for Shabbat at the bakery.
I taught only one 2-unit Berlitz lesson today: 9:00-10:30. It was one of my favorite students, who works in the HR department of a company in Slovakia.
We stayed at home for lunch today because our landlord was coming to replace the broken blinds in our living room. We ordered our traditional Friday lunch from Il Pentolino, though, and simply had them deliver it here. As it turned out, our landlord came quite a bit later than he had said, but he and the other guy who came with him, who was a professional worker with blinds, got the job done before Shabbat. It's very nice to have blinds that work properly again!
We lit candles, drank a bit of sweet red wine, and ate challah to celebrate the arrival of another Shabbat. Pascal, our black cat with white trim, joined in the celebration by listening to the blessings and eating rolled oats and little black seeds from the challah.
Today the videos and exercises for week 2 of my class, "Write Like Mozart", went up, and I have already watched all the lectures and done the exercises. I did learn one new thing this week, about "direct octaves". I think I may have vaguely heard of them before, but I didn't know what they were, and so I may well not have always avoided them. I think, however, that most of the time I probably did.

I again got up too late this morning to go for a walk.
I taught 8 units of Berlitz lessons today: 10:00-11:30, 3:00-4:30, 5:00-6:30, and 7:00-8:30.
We ate lunch at Café Café at Ice Park today. David had cheese ravioli with tomato sauce, but he didn't find it very tasty today and only ate about a third of it. I had Italian shakshuka, which was delicious. We came home right after eating because David wasn't up to walking around the mall at all today.
I made an appointment with the Maccabi social worker for next Sunday so that we can talk about ways to get additional help for David and for me.

Wednesday, 8 January 2014
I woke up early this morning but still felt sleepy and so went back to sleep. In the end, I got up too late to go out for a walk at all.
I had only one student for 2 units today: 10:30-12:00. I managed to take the plastic bottles out to the recycle bin before class. We had a LOT of them to recycle, including the small ones from TWO road trips that were still on the floor under my seat in the car.
We ate lunch at Chooka today. David had "chaing mai", which is rice with a nice sauce over it that includes tofu, mushrooms, spinach, and green curry sauce. I had the vegetarian sushi combo #1, my usual.
I got 2 loads of laundry done this afternoon and also spent some time checking out the discussion forums for my "Write Like Mozart" class. There are at least 2 or 3 others in the class who also just finished the ChucK class that I took.

I got up a little late this morning but still managed to walk to the highway 12 kikar and back.
After breakfast, I went to Shufersal to do the weekly grocery shopping. Then I took David to an appointment with our family doctor at 11:20. He was running quite late, however, so after the appointment we went directly to Buddha Burgers for lunch. David had yam soup, and I had a shwarma burrito.
I taught 4 units of Berlitz lessons today: 2:30-4:00 and 4:00-5:30. Then we drove down to Ice Park for frozen yogurt and a couple of walks around the mall for exercise for David.

Monday, 6 January 2014
I slept both well and long last night and didn't get up at all early. So, of course, I didn't get out for a walk.
I taught 5 units of Berlitz lessons today (although the first was actually a no-show): 9:45-10:30, 12:00-1:30, and 3:00-4:30.
We I came out of my office on break in the middle of the second lesson (around 12:40), I saw that David was not in the apartment. At first I figured that he had gone down to get the mail or to sit for a while on the bench near the parking lot. But, when he didn't return after 7 or 8 minutes and I could see that he was NOT on the bench, I knew that he must have set out on a longer walk. Just before I returned to class from my break, I brought up "Find My Friends" on my phone to see where he was (I had noted that he HAD taken his phone with him!). Sure enough, he was up Ein Gedi, the street where the entrance to our parking lot is. I didn't have time then to do anything about it, but I wasn't surprised when he called me a few minutes later. I had to tell him to stay put until my lesson was over (about a half-hour more). Really, I'm not supposed to even take phone calls during the lesson, but this was obviously important, and, of course, the students weren't upset.
When the lesson was over, I grabbed things quickly and headed out to find David. I could tell from "Find My Friends" that he was still about a block up Ein Gedi on the other side. When I got out to the parking lot entrance and looked up that way, I saw an ambulance up right where he was (and I did NOT see him), so I was pretty sure they were there for him.
Sure enough, when I got up there he was in the ambulance, and the paramedics told me than someone had called them because they saw David having a seizure. They had already checked him pretty thoroughly, though, for any other problems, such as blood pressure irregularities or high or low blood sugar. He was actually feeling fine by then, and we all agreed that there was no reason to take him to the hospital. Instead, they drove us down to our apartment, and I helped David walk back in here without any difficulty.
Of course, David had INTENDED to walk to the bench in the green strip but had gotten lost. It just shows that we've still got quite a bit of work to do.
We ate lunch at home today (as we had planned), since we only had 1.5 hours between 1:30 and 3:00 (and we'd already used quite a bit of that getting David home safely, anyway). We had potato salad and vegetarian weenies wrapped in whole wheat tortillas.
After my last class, we went down to Ice Park for frozen yogurt and a couple of walks around the mall. We also paused at McDonald's to sit and watch the 6:00 p.m. show. Diana had a new routine with a new costume, so that was nice to see.l

Friday-Sunday, 3-5 January 2014
This was our weekend to go north for David's appointment with his HIV doctor (on Sunday morning). We left as early as we could (around 8:15) on Friday morning in order to arrive in Nahariya plenty early in the afternoon.
I helped lead the prayers at EVS (Emet V'Shalom) on Friday evening. Afterwards, we enjoyed a light meal and lots of good conversation with our friends, Beth and Norm, with whom we stayed the 2 nights we were away from home.
On Shabbat, David listened quite a bit to his new book, and I watched the lectures for my brand new online class, "Write Like Mozart". It's going to be an interesting class, although I think I'm already fairly familiar with most of what will be covered. Still, I learned it all over 40 years ago, so a refresher is certainly in order. Besides, I'm sure some of the ways the professor will present some of the ideas and concepts will be a little different, and I'll benefit from that as well. All in all, I'm quite excited about this class.
We also took a little drive around the North, on Shabbat taking the Northern Road (at places right along the Lebanon border) over to the Hula Valley, and returning via highway 89. We stopped and ate a late lunch at our favorite Middle Eastern restaurant in the Druze town of Khurfeish. The owner there is always so friendly and happy to see us, and the food is inexpensive and delicious!
This morning (Sunday) we left Norm and Beth's house in Nahariya around 7:00 a.m. in order to get to David's appointment at Rambam in Haifa. We ate lunch at the Aroma at there before the appointment. We have decided to transfer David's HIV care to the clinic at Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva because it is so much nearer (and the nearest one to us). Today, we had to tell our dear friends in the Rambam clinic about this decision. Of course, there were all supportive and understood why we needed to do this, but they were also about as sad to see us leave as we were reluctant to do so. They have all been so supportive and wonderful to both of us since we first started going there after our arrival in Israel. What a great bunch of people they are! We will, indeed, miss them.
We them started our trip back home, stopping first in Netanya to drop off a small package that a good friend of ours here in Eilat (Moshe) needed to get to his father there. Then we continued our trip home, stopping only for food and drink and restroom facilities.
After we got home, I also went over to have the nurses check my finger (the one I saw decided that it no longer needs to be bandaged!) and to pick up some additional medicines at the pharmacy.

Last night I didn't sleep well at all, and I don't know why. I fell asleep fairly quickly at first, but I only slept about an hour or so, and after that I didn't sleep very much until nearly morning. Nevertheless, I got up in time for breakfast at the regular hour, and the day went pretty well.
I finished categorizing the ChucK recordings today. My next step will be to listen to the best ones again and try to give them interesting and evocative titles. I did one already, in fact, calling it "Lazy Syncopations".
We ate lunch at Chooka at Ice Park today and then walked once around the mall. David's calves were hurting too much, though, for a second round.
I began packing for our trip North this weekend, but the final work can't be done until morning. Our friend, Moshe, will be feeding the cats and cleaning out their litter boxes while we're away, and we are also taking a small package to give to his father in Netanya on our way back on Sunday. So he came over this evening to bring the package to us, and we chatted a bit while he was here.

Happy New Year, everybody!
This morning I woke up tired and with a headache, so I went back to sleep and didn't get up until nearly breakfast time (no, it was NOT a hangover -- I drank no alcohol at all last night, and we went to bed early at our usual time). I do think some of the shoulder part of the headache had something to do with yesterday morning's exercise, but, who knows? Anyway, of course I did NOT go out for a walk.
I continued listening to my recordings from "ChucK Makes More Variations" and sorting them out. In fact, I spent quite a bit of time on that today. I also did 2 loads of laundry, so that nearly all our clothes are now clean. In addition, I spent a little time further improving the organization of the closet.
For lunch today, we went to Buddha Burgers. David had barley soup, and I had falafel with chips (i.e. French fries). Afterwards, we drove down to Ice Park for exercise and frozen yogurt. We walked around the mall once before eating and once more after.
I started working on a website to host the ChucK variations, but I only just began. It won't go live for a while, I'm sure.
David finished listening to his latest Tom Clancy book this evening, so we went to Audible and bought him another one. He'll start listening to it tomorrow.
