Since I didn't take any pictures today, the picture of the day is of Pascal as I was writing yesterday's post:

After breakfast, I started walking down to the beach. I didn't go the most direct way, though, and so I got to enjoy the beautiful "pink angels" on Barkan Street again. When I arrived, I immediately took off my shirt and lay down to relax in the warm sun.

אחרי ארוחת הבוקר התחלתי ללכת לחוף. אבל אני לא הלכתי בדרך הישירה ביותר, וכך נהניתי שוב מה"מלאכים הוורודים" היפים שברחוב ברקן. כשהגעתי, הורדתי מיד את החולצה ונשכבתי להירגע בשמש החמה

After about half an hour, I got up and walked along the entire length of the North Beach Promenade and then back to the point where the number 1 and number 2 bus lines begin. From there I caught the number 2 up to Maccabi.

אחרי כחצי שעה קמתי והלכתי לאורך כל טיילת החוף הצפוני וחזרתי לנקודה שבה מתחילים קווי האוטובוס מספר 1 ומספר 2. משם תפסתי את מספר 2 למכבי

I had an appointment with the orthopedist regarding my shoulder. As I had expected, he referred me to physical therapy. We're hoping that will work (as it did last time) because, if it doesn't, I might have to undergo surgery, something which I'd rather avoid in this case.

היה לי תור עם האורתופד בקשר לכתפי. כפי שציפיתי, הוא הפנה אותי לפיזיותרפיה. אנחנו מקווים שזה יעבוד (כפי שקרה בפעם האחרונה), כי אם לא, אולי אצטרך לעבור ניתוח, משהו שהייתי מעדיף להימנע ממנו במקרה זה

After that, I walked down to the sea again and lay in the sun some more before getting up, walking a little more, and catching the bus back home.

אחר כך ירדתי שוב לים ושכבתי עוד קצת בשמש לפני שקמתי, הלכתי עוד קצת, ותפסתי את האוטובוס בחזרה הביתה

I taught 4 units of Berlitz lessons today: 4:00-5:30 and 5:30-7:00.

I started my morning slowly and mostly just relaxed before my first lesson.

התחלתי את הבוקר לאט ובדרך כלל רק נרגעתי לפני השיעור הראשון שלי

I taught 6 units of Berlitz lessons today: 11:00-12:30, 4:00-5:30, and 5:30-7:00.

היום לימדתי 6 יחידות בשיעורי ברליץ

After my morning lesson, I walked down and sat by the sea for about 50 minutes and even soaked my feet for a few minutes. Then I had falafel for lunch on the mall balcony:

Besides our usual friendly conversations with friends at WIZO this morning, we had a very special presentation by two people about the work they are doing to promote an accurate and positive view of Israel in Scotland, Belgium, and, ultimately, throughout Europe. The work they are doing is effective and extremely important, and we all enjoyed hearing about it.

In the afternoon, Hannah and I walked down and enjoyed some time by the sea. First, we sat for a while outside right by the water, and later we sat on the upper glass-enclosed balcony of the mall, with its picture-postcard views of the North Beach and the gulf:

I was scheduled to teach 10 units of Berlitz lessons today, but the first student (1 unit) was a late cancellation: 9:00-9:45, 11:00-11:45, 12:00-1:30, 3:00-4:30, 4:30-6:00, and 6:00-7:30.

I walked up to Einat Center to do a little grocery shopping before eating lunch. As I started to walk back home, I saw this beautiful "pink angel" just across the street from the market:

I walked over to Mercaz Big this morning, mostly to buy a new shaver. I didn't really want to spend all that money, but my old one was literally scratching my head.

הלכתי הבוקר למרקז ביג, בעיקר כדי לקנות מכונת גילוח חדשה. לא רציתי באמת להוציא את כל הכסף הזה, אבל המכונה הנוכחית שלי ממש גירד לי את הראש

Then I took a bus over to the North Beach, where I lay on a chaise and relaxed for at least 40 minutes. It was mostly overcast today, but the sun did peak through a little, and I took full advantage of it by taking my shirt off for a while. It was never cold enough through the whole daytime for me to need more than my short-sleeve t-shirt.

אחר כך נסעתי באוטובוס אל החוף הצפוני, שם שכבתי על כיסא ארוך ונרגעתי לפחות 40 דקות. היה בעיקר מעונן היום, אבל השמש זרחה קצת, ואני השתמשתי בהצדמנות זו על ידי הסרת החולצה שלי לזמן מה. אף פעם לא היה קר מספיק במשך כל היום, כדי שאזדקק ליותר מחולצת ההקצרה שלי

Next, I walked to the breakwater near the Herod's beach, where I took this picture of almost all of Eilat, on a rare overcast day:

From there, I walked all the way along the promenade to the mall, where I just browsed and relaxed for some time. Later, Yakira came down, and I took some portraits of her with various seaside backgrounds. We then walked together up to the central bus station, and I continued on up to MaccabiPharm to get my monthly prescriptions filled. I took the bus back home after that.

In the evening, I enjoyed our weekly play-reading group.

Shabbat, 26 January 2019 - שבת 26 ינואר 2019

I got up early this morning but didn't hurry my morning routine at all. In the late morning, I walked by a somewhat circuitous route down to the sea.

קמתי מוקדם בבוקר, אבל לא הזדרזתי את שגרת הבוקר שלי. מאוחר בבוקר הלכתי בדרך קצת מעגלית אל הים

I spent most of the day relaxing by the sea, sometimes sitting or lying in the sun, and sometimes in the shade. I also got up and walk around several times. At one point, my seaside feline friend came and sat on my lap:

את רוב היום ביליתי במנוחה ליד הים, לפעמים ישבתי או שכבתי בשמש, ולפעמים בצל. גם אני קמתי והלכתי כמה פעמים. בשלב מסוים הגיעה החתולה הידידית שלי, שישבה על ברכיי

In the late afternoon, I walked up to Hannah's and visited her for a while. Then I walked over to Pedro's for a dinner to celebrate the birthdays of two good friends: Isobel and Liz. It was a most enjoyable occasion! Afterwards, I returned home by bus.

I woke up and got up early this morning, but then I got sleepy later and, after breakfast, slept for a while in my chair. I still easily managed to take out the trash and recycling materials and to walk up to the bakery to buy challah.

התעוררתי וקמתי מוקדם בבוקר, אבל אחר כך נרדמתי מאוחר יותר, ואחרי ארוחת הבוקר נמנמתי זמן מה בכיסאי. עדיין הצלחתי להוציא בקלות את חומרי הזבל והמיחזור וללכת למאפייה כדי לקנות חלה

I taught just one 3-unit Berlitz lesson today: 11:00-1:15.

לימדתי היום רק שיעור אחד של 3 יחידות ברליץ

After I finished teaching, I again walked down to the sea, again deviating from the direct route. I paid my 6 shekels and sat in a comfortable low plastic chair right by the sea about 40 minutes. Then I took the last number 2 bus home. On my walk down, I took some pictures of lovely pink hibiscus, including this one:

In the evening, I lit candles, drank a little sweet red wine, and ate a challah to welcome Shabbat.
