I slept well, got up early this morning, and walked to the gym and back. I even went on a couple of the machines. When I left the apartment, it was not even slightly light out yet, but the birds were singing a magnificent symphony as I walked up the green strip! I don't think I've ever heard better bird-singing. On the way back, I stopped and stretched in the pergola by the big kikar, and later I petted both of my gingi outdoor cats, Fluffy and Mielo, and each of them in his turn walked with me for some distance. It was so good to be back into exercise again!
This morning, we checked out a new store in town called סופר-סטוק SuperStock. It's kind of like MaxStock that came in a year or so before we left Tsfat, and they're both a little like the 99-cent stores in the U.S. I found some good flip-flops for us there, so a bought a couple of pairs (20 shekels for each pair). From now until next winter, we wear almost no other footwear than flip-flops unless we are hiking.
After SuperStock, we continued to ShuferSal, where we did the weekly grocery shopping. David was going to sit in the car, but it really was a bit too hot for that, so he went in with me. EVERYBODY was there this morning, I think, so it was very busy. At least they had a lot of registers open, so we didn't have to wait too long to check out. Still, it was pretty tiring for David.
We ate lunch again at Greg café. David just had a little cheese cake, but I had their omelet sandwich, served on kosher-for-passover bread, of course. This brings up a mystery that I have not yet solved: why do ALL the restaurants that are open during Passover have this special bread, but yet there was NONE of it available at the supermarket?
Today I began investigating reverb plugins for Digital Performer, my digital audio workstation (DAW). Several come either with it or with my Mac system software, and I managed to find some free ones to download from the internet, as well. I'm going to need them to do the topic that I'm choosing for my week 5 homework in my Intro to Music Production class. Now I've got to figure out the technical details of presenting them. It's going to more of a tech challenge that previous weeks where I was able to choose more theoretical projects and thereby avoid technical difficulties. This week, there are NO purely theoretical topics available. It was cool, though, experimenting with the different reverbs and hearing my virtual orchestra transported instantly between many different types of spaces (cathedrals, large halls, medium halls, concert halls, etc.) at the mere press of a button.
This evening David and I went for another lovely walk. The birds were still singing in the green strip. It didn't seem quite as glorious as this morning, but maybe that's just because there were so many other sounds in the daytime. Also, the crows were contributing just a tad too much to the mix! LOL Put a fader on them (music production joke!).

30 March 2013
I slept well last night but woke up too early this morning.
After breakfast, we drove down to the birdwatching area (next to the border crossing to Jordan). There weren't a lot of birds, but it was a pleasant place to spend some time in the warm sun and the cool breeze. We even saw 4 small planes doing acrobatics in formation over Jordan!
After that, we drove around the short loop, but we took a detour out to Shakharut. I parked the car by the side of the road near the houses (leaving David in it) and walked a short distance to the edge of the cliff. From there, I had a great view of the Arava, including parts of Yotvata and Grofit.
When we got back to town, we headed straight over to Ice Park and had lunch at Greg café. I tried their creamed baked potato, which was good, and David had their soup of the day, yam soup, which was also great.
Back at home again, David took a nice, long nap, and I watched the video lessons for week 5 of my Introduction to Music Production class. They were especially interesting this week, and I think I may even be able to use some of the delay effects to improve my music.
Later we talked for some time with David's sister and her husband in Ohio, and then we went out for a walk in the pleasant evening. The weather is just about perfect here now: dry, with a high around 34˚C (about 93˚F) and a low of about 23˚C (73˚F).

29 March 2013
I woke up at a good time this morning and didn't even miss the hour that we lost during the night (in the switch to summer time, of course)! :-)
I taught 4 units of Berlitz lessons today: 11:00-12:30 and 12:30-2:00. After that, we went and ate lunch at Greg café. We both had different salads and we brought the bread that came with one of them home. Of course, it's kosher for Pesach!
We used that bread for the "challah" when we made Shabbat this evening, and although it's not the same, it still seemed a lot better than matza for that purpose!
This evening we drove up to Samar and back (just short of Yotvata), just to get out for a bit.

28 March 2013
I slept well last night, but by morning I was quite sure that I actually have a cold. Mostly it is manifesting itself in a scratchy but not actually sore throat. In any case, I hope it passes quickly, but what are the chances?
I taught 8 units of Berlitz lessons today: 9:00-10:30, 11:00-12:30, 2:00-3:30, and 5:00-6:30.
We ate lunch at home around 1:30.
We went for a short walk to the green strip and sat on the bench there for a while around 4:00.
After my last class, we went to Ice Park to shop a bit. We were looking for more tank tops but didn't find any interesting ones. We did both get matching pink t-shirts at Renuar, though. Very nice, and at a reasonable price, too. There were a LOT of people there this evening, and it was quite noisy. We did pause to eat frozen yogurt again, as well.

27 March 2013
I slept well but woke up early this morning. I didn't feel like going out for a walk, though, because I'm having a lot of acidic draining from my sinuses (at least that's what it feels like).
I worked a bit more on my orchestration of BaShana HaBa'a before my first class today. I didn't get very much done on it, however.
I taught 8 units today: 11:00-12:30, 2:00-3:30, 4:15-5:45, and 7:30-9:00 (haven't yet started this last one as I write this).
We ate lunch at home today, having matza, hard-boiled eggs, and cheese.
In the big break before my last class, we drove over to Ice Park and both had frozen yogurt. Mine had strawberries, mango, banana, and white chocolate in it, and it was the best I've had yet, I think.

26 March 2013
It took a little extra ibuprofen, but at least I got a good night's sleep last night.
This morning I did work for my Music Production Class. I assessed last week's assignments from 5 of my fellow students. Then I also reviewed most of this week's videos to prepare myself to do this week's assignment.
We went to lunch at Greg today and got to try things from their Pesach menu. David had their noodles (which must have been made from rice) with mushroom Alfredo sauce, and I had סלט טוסט salat toast (toast salad). The pieces of toast in it were, of course, made from some kind of kosher-for-Passover bread.
After lunch, we came back home, and I worked on my assignment. It’s basically done, but I'll check it another day before actually submitting it.
Then we took a drive on the longer loop, going on highway 12 to highway 40 and then all the way up to highway 13, which we then took down to highway 90. We had been planning to get soda at the rest stop just north of that intersection, but it turned out to be closed. Luckily, the store at Yotvata was open, so we got soda there somewhat later. I also both a couple more kilos of dates, which we have been eating a lot of lately.
Soon after we got back home, we talked to David's sister for a while.

25 March 2013
Last night, I took both 400 mg of ibuprofen AND a Colex pill BEFORE going to bed, and this enabled me to sleep pretty much all night, or at least to fall asleep again very quickly when I did wake. I woke up feeling that I had had a real night of sleep.
I taught 4 units of Berlitz lessons today: 10:00-11:30 and 12:00-1:30. Both were regular groups of mine consisting of Canon employees, the first in Poland and the second in Germany.
We ate lunch at home today because we figured that by the time I was finished teaching most places would already be closed for the holiday.
In the late afternoon, we took a very pleasant drive around the short loop in the reverse direction (up highway 12 and back on highway 90). I wore shorts and a tank top and had my window at least partly down for the entire trip and was very comfortable. The weather here is so wonderful, especially at this time of year!
In the evening, we made a very small seder with just the 2 of us. It was really quite nice and very informal!

24 March 2013
When I again woke up last night after only 2 hours and had shoulder pain, I executed a different plan from the night before -- I got up and took both ibuprofen and Coldex (which also makes a person drowsy), then stayed up for about an hour, and then went back to bed. It worked -- I slept well until a little after 7:00 in the morning and felt rested, at least after I finally got up.
This morning, we went clothes shopping at the old mall (Mul HaYam). We each got three new pairs of short pants (one of mine is camouflage, which I've never worn before, and another is bright orange-red!). We also got tank tops; David got 4 and I got 2.
We ate lunch at Il Pentolino since we're quite sure it will be closed during Pesakh.
After lunch, I did the grocery shopping at Breishit (more nuts, dried fruit, and peanut butter) and at Shufersal. What a zoo! EVERYBODY was shopping there. I managed to get most things on my list, but I was quite annoyed about ones I couldn't get: horseradish (they were out of fresh, and I couldn't find the kind in jars anywhere!), Pesakh cakes (they had only one kind), and Pesakh bread (which they had last week, but I didn't get it then because I figured they'd have even MORE this week, so close to Pesakh -- go figure!). Then, of course, I had to wait a long time in line, even though they had a LOT of lines open. It was particularly frustrating that the woman two ahead of me spent such a long time paying -- partly cash and at least THREE checks, which required manager approval and the usual back-and-forth friendly chit-chat that that involves. Meanwhile, David was getting quite bored waiting for me in the car.
When we came home and got the groceries put away, we both sat and rested for a while and also talked to David's sister a bit. Then we got busy and made the charoset, which I think is going to be good. We also managed to make a reasonable amount so that we won't be eating it for a week or more AFTER Pesakh, which is what usually happens.
In the evening, I cut off tags and put all the new clothes away in the closet.

23 March 2013
I went to sleep quickly last night, but I woke up only a couple of hours later, and I had a lot of trouble getting back to sleep due to the ache in my shoulder, despite having taken 400 mg of ibuprofen before I went to bed. Eventually I did get some more sleep but not really enough.
Today we to the Underwater Observatory Marine Park down by the sea. Mostly, we just walked around looking at various things there and also sat quite a while on 2 or 3 different benches (in the shade) and enjoyed the lovely weather and the parade of people passing by. We did get David a new hat and t-shirt, and we both got new stainless steel rings. David's has a small insert with the Sh'ma prayer engraved on it that turns around. Mine has small engraved gold Stars of David on a brushed metal background with gold-colored tapers on both sides of it.
After that, we went over and ate lunch at Greg café, then came back home.
I watched all the new videos for week 4 of my Introduction to Music Production class. They were just posted last night. This week's topic is dynamic effects, and it is surprisingly complicated. The teacher, as usual, gave very good explanations and demonstrations of the effects. I don't think I'll be using them much, however, in my music, since I'm not using any sounds that I record myself, and the ones I AM using having been very well recorded. Nevertheless, it's quite interesting to see what can be done.
This evening we got some more audiobooks for David, since he had read the ones he already had.
We also went back over to Ice Park, where we ate frozen yogurt and got a new, more protective case for David's iPhone. Sometimes, he puts it on his lap, forgets that it's there, and then gets up some time later, causing the phone to fall. So far, of course, it has been fine, but we're always a little worried, so we figured it might be wise to get a better case for it. You know, an ounce of prevention...

22 March 2013
I slept fairly well last night, especially for the first part of the night, but I still woke up tired but with too much ache in my shoulder to fall back asleep. Of course, I felt better very shortly after getting up.
I taught 5 units today: 9:00-10:30 and 11:00-1:15. We ate lunch at Greg after that.
When we came out of Ice Park, we could see that the predicted dust storm was definitely gathering, so we headed straight home and shut all the windows. Some dust had already gotten in, but I think we prevented the bulk of it. If we had left all the windows open, EVERY surface in the house would now be covered with a layer of dust!
It was only when we had already lit candles and drunk wine to welcome Shabbat that I realized that I had completely forgotten to go down to the bakery and buy challah! So we just did the bread blessing with regular bread. LOL
After making Shabbat, we just spent a quiet evening at home.

21 March 2013
I had a bad cramp in my left calf in the middle of the night last night. After that, I didn't sleep very well, and I got up very early. However, I didn't feel up to going out for a walk.
I got a little more work done on my orchestration this morning before my first class.
I taught 7 units of Berlitz lesson today: 11:00-12:30, 1:15-2:00, 4:15-5:45, and 7:00-8:30.
David and I took a short walk over to the green strip between 12:30 and 1:15. Then, between 2:00 and 4:15, we went to Ice Park and ate lunch at Greg café.
At around 6:00 we started talking with David's sister and her husband in Ohio. I left for my class, but David continuing talking with them for quite a while longer.

20 March 2013
We both got up early this morning in order to go over to Maccabi in town to get David's blood taken for tests the doctors had ordered.
After breakfast and before my first class today, I got some good work done on orchestrating my organ arrangement of BaShana HaBa'a.
I taught 9 units of Berlitz lesson today: 11:00-12:30, 2:00-4:15, 4:15-5:45, and 6:30-8:00.
We ate a lunch of leftovers at home today, just to use them up. I had the rest of David's pizza from yesterday, and he had the rest of the pasta we had ordered last Friday from Il Pentolino. Both were good.

We ate lunch at the local bakery between 11:30 and 1:15. I had their Greek salad, and David had pizza.
We took a short drive up the Arava just before my 5:30 class, just to get us out of the house for a bit.
Today, between the cracks, I evaluated the work of 5 of my classmates for week 2 in my Introduction to Music Production class.

18 March 2013
I got up quite early this morning, but I didn't go out.
I did a few chores after breakfast and before my first lesson and then taught 10 units of Berlitz today: 10:00-11:30, 12:00-1:30, 2:00-3:30, 5:00-6:30, and 6:30-8:00. We ate a quick lunch at home between 1:30 and 2:00.
We went out briefly for a short drive between 3:30 and 5:00, just to get out of the house for a bit. It was actually a very beautiful but cool day out today. Too bad I didn't have more time to spend out in it!

17 March 2013
I called first thing this morning to schedule an appointment with our family doctor. We needed to give him the letter from Dr. Shafrir that she wrote when we were there last week. We also needed to talk to him about a couple of other matters. The appointment was at 9:30.
After that appointment, we ran some other errands. I got cat litter and cat food from the pet store. Then we went to Home Center, where we got a nice basin that we can use to wash our feet and new lightbulbs, one of them to replace our bedroom light that burned out last week. Finally, we went to Office Depot, where I got color cartridges for our printer.
We ate lunch today again at Greg. David wasn't very hungry, but I had their omelet sandwich. We both had ice cafés, of course.
This afternoon, I made the monthly trip to the pharmacy to get our prescriptions filled, and then continued to the health food store and the supermarket for the weekly grocery shopping (and some extra things to put in the charoset we'll make for Pesach).
This evening, I worked on my next assignment for my class (which isn't due for more than a week), and I also tried to make some progress on my music. I'm working on getting my setting of BaShana HaBa'a orchestrated and also extended to a third stanzas (which I'll have to write).

This evening, I worked on my next assignment for my class (which isn't due for more than a week), and I also tried to make some progress on my music. I'm working on getting my setting of BaShana HaBa'a orchestrated and also extended to a third stanzas (which I'll have to write).

16 March 2013
I slept well and got up early enough this morning to take a nice walk to the big kikar and back. They're landscaping that kikar, and it's going to be really cool when it's done. In the middle is a giant deep blue anchor (part of the symbol of the city of Eilat). The word "Eilat" is in big letters right where someone entering on highway 12 will be sure to see it. Most of the kikar will be blue like the sea with lots of wave peaks and many figures of dolphins going in and out of the water. Already, we can see the basic form (the picture on the sign is how I know what the finished product will be like).
This morning we got going only slowly, taking a well-deserved breather. I did take time to write up my assignment for week 2 of my class, which is due by tomorrow. I actually turned it in later today.
Before lunch we took a drive around the short loop in the reverse direction (up highway 12 and back on highway 90).
When we got back we went directly to Ice Park and ate lunch at Greg café. David had edamame (but I actually ate about 2/3 of it) and I had fatoush salad.
When we got back, we called David's sister and had a long conversation with her. In fact, I mostly let David talk this time and took the time to listen to the lectures for week 3 of the class.
This evening we spent a little time listening to music on YouTube (on my computer). We listened to "Mars, Bringer of War" from Gustav Holst's "The Planets" and Mozart's 40th Symphony (and parts of a couple of other things).

15 March 2013
Last night I slept quite well and got up only a little late this morning.
I taught 5 units of Berlitz lessons today: 9:00-10:30 and 11:00-1:15.
I called Il Pentolino during the last break in the last lesson (about 45 minutes before it ended) and ordered pasta to be delivered. It arrived here just as I finished teaching. After we ate it, I went down to the bakery on got us 2 challot for Shabbat.
This evening we made Shabbat, but other than that we were just lazy mostly.
The weather here has now warmed up so much that we've used the A/C during the daytime the last 2 or 3 days. Tomorrow and following days are forecast to be somewhat cooler, though.

14 March 2013
I slept very well but didn't get up until a little late.
Today was a VERY busy Berlitz day, 12 units (9 hours!): 9:00-10:30, 11:00-12:30, 12:45-1:30, 1:30-3:00, 3:00-4:30, 6:30-8:00, and 8:00-8:45. Actually, I'm writing this just before the 6:30 class.
We ate a very quick lunch today, between 12:30 and 12:45. I had 2 cans of Heinz beans, so I opened them and each of us had one, eating right out of the cans.
After 4:30, we drove over to Ice Park. David just stayed in the car because he didn't feel up to much walking. I went in and got us frozen yogurts, which I brought back to the car for us to eat. Then we simply drove back home.
I'm changing my Berlitz availability so that, eventually, we'll always be guaranteed at least an hour for lunch and no classes lasting after 8:30 in the evening. The change has been approved, but no currently scheduled classes will be changed -- just new ones will be blocked from the newly excluded times.

13 March 2013
I woke up less tired this morning than yesterday but still not early at all.
I took advantage of the fact that my first lesson wasn't until 11:00 today to take out the trash and the plastic bottles for recycling.
A social worker named Shimrit came out today, sent from the city welfare office. She was very nice and will probably be able to help David in various ways to improve his quality of life. I was able to talk with her and David for about 40 minutes before I had to go into a lesson, but David continued talking with her for a while longer. She was a little worried about her English, but it really was quite good, and I was able to translate a bit when she had a little trouble.

I slept well last night but woke up late and quite tired this morning.

I finished my work of assessing assignments from the first week of my Introduction to Music Production class. Each week, every student must assess the previous week's assignment of 4 colleagues in the class. Then we must also self-assess our own assignment. I haven't yet started working on this week's assignment, but it's not due until after the weekend, so I can work on it then.
We ate lunch at home today between 12:30 and 1:15. I heated up some of our take-home leftovers.
David has been having trouble with hearing today because of a ringing in his ears. I sure hope he's better tomorrow! It also seems to be making him reluctant to speak.

11 March 2013
Both of us slept well last night, but I didn't get up very early.
I had 10 units of Berlitz today, but the class scheduled at 12:00 turned out to be a late cancellation: 10:00-11:30, 12:00-1:30, 2:00-3:30, 4:00-5:30, and 6:30-8:00.
Because of the late cancellation, David and I were able to eat at Greg today, something which pleased us very much.
In between times today, I have been listening to the video lectures for this week in the Introduction to Music Production class that I'm taking. They are very interesting!

10 March 2013
We went up North on Friday and didn't come back until today, and I didn't get a chance to write in here until now. So, this is really for 8, 9, and 10 March.
Thursday night, I had had some trouble sleeping so I got up for a while. Before I headed back to bad (around 2:30-2:45 a.m.), I decided to go to the kitchen to get a little water to drink. I was unaware that David had had a small accident earlier in the night (he still doesn't remember even going out that direction), and so the floor was wet near the front door, on the way to the kitchen. I slipped and instinctively reached out to keep from falling. I did manage not to fall, but I twisted my left shoulder pretty painfully. I wasn't able to sleep anymore the rest of that night. I even considered canceling our trip or at least waiting until the next day (Shabbat) to drive up. But, in the end, I decided I could manage, and I did. Of course, I also got quite tired that day.
Beginning in the Arava, and continuing in several other parts of the Negev, we encountered quite a few locusts. Of course, we were whizzing along at full highway speeds, but I'm stil pretty sure that's what they were. A few hit the windshield, but thankfully they are too hard to splatter on it like smaller bugs, so our windshield didn't get all messed up.
In the evening, we attended Emet V'Shalom (EVS), our old congregation in Nahariya, and I led the Kabbalat Shabbat prayers. Everyone was so happy to see us, as we were to see them!
We stayed Friday and Saturday nights with our friends, the Loberants. Norm was is the State on business, but Beth was such a gracious hostess, and we enjoyed our visit immensely.
This morning, we got up very early and left even before Beth had gotten up. We wanted to be sure to beat the traffic in the Krayot and get to Rambam plenty early. In fact, we still hit quite a bit of traffic, but we did get in early enough to easily eat breakfast there before David's appointment. We took the new bypass that is about half complete around the Krayot. That may have helped a little except that the traffic getting TO the new freeway was VERY heavy.
We found out today that David's doctor there, Dr. Shafrir, is going to be laid off, which is disappointing. However, there's another doctor there that we like almost as well, Dr. Kedem, so we're thankful for that.
On the way back, we stopped in Tel Aviv for an appointment there with the eye doctor who approved David for a teudat iver (blind certificate) and for some additional monthly money. For the latter approval, he was required to actually see David face-to-face.
We got to Tel Aviv way ahead of our appointment, but that gave us time to find a parking place in the neighborhood (NOT an easy thing in TA!) and to have lunch at a cafe on nearby Diezengof Street. I had the "Roots Salad" and David had whole wheat penne in a yam cream sauce. Both were good!
After the appointment, we headed on home, only stopping for fuel, sodas, and to pee. We got home just before 7:30 this evening.
My shoulder felt quite a bit better on Shabbat than it had on Friday, and today it continued to improve. It's still somewhat sore, though.

Today was quite a busy day. I taught 10 units of Berlitz lessons: 9:00-10:30, 11:00-12:30, 12:45-1:30, 1:30-3:00, 3:00-4:30, and 8:00-8:45. Actually, no one showed up for the 3:00 class, so I was able to leave by 4:00.
We had to eat lunch very quickly between 12:30 and 12:45. We heated up some pasta that we had brought back from Greg a couple of days ago, I think.
Between 4:00 and 8:00, we drove over to Ice Park, but David's leg was giving him too much pain for him to go in. I went in, got frozen yogurts for both of us, and brought them back to eat in the car. Then we took a drive around the short loop. Before my evening class, I went down to the pharmacy and bought David an ace bandage. Tomorrow, we're going to try wrapping that around his leg to see if it will help any.

6 March 2013
I got up this morning feeling a little tired.
I had my General Performance Review for Berlitz this morning. They are planning to do this annually, but this is the first time I've had one. I was actually dreading it, but it went okay, better than I thought it would.
I taught 7 units of Berlitz lessons today: 11:00-12:30, 1:45-2:30, 4:15-5:45, and 7:30-9:00. We went to Il Pentolino for lunch between 2:30 and 4:00. Our friends, Moshe and Bob, happened to also be eating there. I didn't see them, but they noticed us. We all finished about the same time, so we gave them a ride home.
I got good news when I called the eye doctor's office today. They told me that David will receive his תעודת עיוור (certificate of blindness) almost immediately and without even needing to come in for an eye exam. However, if he does come in, there's a possibility of also receiving some additional money each month, so naturally I scheduled an appointment. I was very pleasantly surprised that they will be able to see him next Sunday at 3:00, so we can simply go there (the clinic is in Tel Aviv) on our way back from Haifa!
We had another good conversation this evening with David's sister and her husband in Ohio. We were supposed to call them yesterday but had forgotten until it was too late.

5 March 2013
I woke up a bit tired this morning although I had slept quite well.
I didn't have any classes this morning, so I used the time to get several other things done. For one, I finished editing and submitted my assignment for the first week of my Introduction to Music Production class. Next week, it will be evaluated by 4 of my classmates, and I, in turn, will have to evaluate 4 of their assignments.
David & I drove up highway 12 twice today, once before we headed to lunch at Greg (in the middle of the day, of course) and the second time this evening after my last class. The Eilat Mountains are so beautiful! Also, on most nights (like tonight) it's clear enough that one can see the lights of Haql, Saudia Arabia, along the other side of the gulf south of Jordan.
I taught 6 units of Berlitz lessons today: 2:00-3:30, 4:00-5:30, and 5:30-7:00.
Today, we received a letter from the eye doctor who will examine David in order for him to get his תעודת עיוור t'udat iver (certificate of blindness). I have to call them (during their highly irregular office hours, which were included in the letter) and schedule an appointment for him. I plan to do that tomorrow. I hope we can schedule it for not too far in the future.

4 March 2013
I had some trouble getting to sleep last night so I didn't get up really early this morning. But I had slept well and felt okay all day today.
Today was a very busy Berlitz teaching day, 11 units (8.25 hours!): 10:00-11:30, 12:00-1:30, 2:00-3:30, 4:00-5:30, 6:30-8:00, and 8:00-8:45. There were no no-shows or late cancellation, either. We ate a quick lunch of leftovers at home between 1:30 and 2:00.
Between 5:30 and 6:30, we took a short drive up highway 12, just to get out of the house for a bit. Long teaching days like today are more of a problem for David than for me, since it's very hard for him to find things to do to keep from getting very bored.

3 March 2013
We spent most of the morning getting David's pain in his leg checked out. First, we went to our family doctor. He examined David and decided that the leg and hip should be x-rayed to check for breaks. So we next headed over to the Maccabi downtown office for that. The news was good: no sign of any breaks! Nevertheless, David was still in pretty bad pain, so we ate lunch at Il Pentolino because we can park right in front of the restaurant.
After lunch, I went looking for a new chair for my office. The back broke on my old chair. Luckily, it was pretty simple finding a good new one. I bought one of the floor models at Home Center because I liked its material (called "jeans", and actually a lot like soft jeans) and they didn't have any others like it in stock. Actually, that was also good because it meant I didn't have to put it together!
Later in the afternoon, I went to Shufersal and did the weekly grocery shopping. I was a little irritated to find the the entire cheese department (and also the deli and meat departments, though I NEVER buy anything in them anyway!) was closed. They were cleaning and kashering them for Pesach already. This is really WAY too much, if you ask me (but, obviously, no one did!). Unfortunately, the heavy-handed way that Pesach is enforced here in Israel has made both of us begin to HATE this holiday, which is SUPPOSED to be about celebrating freedom, of all things!
I spent most of the evening doing my assignment for the first week of the music production class that I am taking. I also took some time to get set up for my heavy schedule of Berlitz lessons tomorrow.

2 March 2013
Hmmm, I didn't even realize until sometime today that I had completely forgotten to post anything yesterday. Anyway, there was really nothing amiss: I taught 3 units, we ate at Greg, and, in the evening after making Shabbat, we took a drive around the short loop.
Now for today: I got up very early and took a long walk. I went up highway 12 and crossed over on the bike trail to Nakhal Shakhamon (or at least that's what I call it -- it may not be its real name). I walked down the nakhal to Harim Road and continued home. It was a little chilly part of the way due to the breeze, especially where the bike trail goes through a small pass and the wind was strong.
I've just started a free online course in music production, hoping to learn things that will help me improve the quality of my recordings. The teacher of the class is a young professor at Berklee College of Music named Loudon Stearns, and he's really good. I'm sure a lot of the material won't actually be very relevant to my situation, but some of it surely will be. For example, the first lesson talked a lot about microphones, items which I don't use at all! The course will actually be quite a bit of work, since I'll have the responsibility of assessing assignments done by other class members (and they'll be assessing mine, too, of course). I hope I'll have the time to do it justice.
Late in the morning today we again drove around the short loop, but in the middle of the day (instead of after dark) and in the reverse direction (going out on highway 12). The flowers are now in full bloom. There are a number of different kinds growing in all the low places where water must have passed, however briefly, during the 2 or 3 storms we had. It's especially nice to see since nearly all the species are different from the ones we were familiar with in the North.
We ate lunch at Greg as soon as we got back into town.
David has been having a LOT of trouble walking in recent days because of a rather severe pain in his leg. We don't know exactly what is causing it. It happens mostly when he walks. It may be related to his fall in the bathroom nearly 2 weeks ago, but it seemed to start only several days AFTER the fall. We're going to try to have it checked tomorrow. Anyway, by the time we got home, he was really tired and in pain. It went down a lot after he had sat for a while, though.
We had a nice long conversation with David's sister and her husband in Ohio.
By evening, I had finished watching all the lecture videos of my music production course for this week, learning quite a bit about sound, sound processing, and microphones in particular. Now I have to work on my assignment, which is due by next Friday.
