We went up North on Friday and didn't come back until today, and I didn't get a chance to write in here until now. So, this is really for 8, 9, and 10 March.
Thursday night, I had had some trouble sleeping so I got up for a while. Before I headed back to bad (around 2:30-2:45 a.m.), I decided to go to the kitchen to get a little water to drink. I was unaware that David had had a small accident earlier in the night (he still doesn't remember even going out that direction), and so the floor was wet near the front door, on the way to the kitchen. I slipped and instinctively reached out to keep from falling. I did manage not to fall, but I twisted my left shoulder pretty painfully. I wasn't able to sleep anymore the rest of that night. I even considered canceling our trip or at least waiting until the next day (Shabbat) to drive up. But, in the end, I decided I could manage, and I did. Of course, I also got quite tired that day.
Beginning in the Arava, and continuing in several other parts of the Negev, we encountered quite a few locusts. Of course, we were whizzing along at full highway speeds, but I'm stil pretty sure that's what they were. A few hit the windshield, but thankfully they are too hard to splatter on it like smaller bugs, so our windshield didn't get all messed up.
In the evening, we attended Emet V'Shalom (EVS), our old congregation in Nahariya, and I led the Kabbalat Shabbat prayers. Everyone was so happy to see us, as we were to see them!
We stayed Friday and Saturday nights with our friends, the Loberants. Norm was is the State on business, but Beth was such a gracious hostess, and we enjoyed our visit immensely.
This morning, we got up very early and left even before Beth had gotten up. We wanted to be sure to beat the traffic in the Krayot and get to Rambam plenty early. In fact, we still hit quite a bit of traffic, but we did get in early enough to easily eat breakfast there before David's appointment. We took the new bypass that is about half complete around the Krayot. That may have helped a little except that the traffic getting TO the new freeway was VERY heavy.
We found out today that David's doctor there, Dr. Shafrir, is going to be laid off, which is disappointing. However, there's another doctor there that we like almost as well, Dr. Kedem, so we're thankful for that.
On the way back, we stopped in Tel Aviv for an appointment there with the eye doctor who approved David for a teudat iver (blind certificate) and for some additional monthly money. For the latter approval, he was required to actually see David face-to-face.
We got to Tel Aviv way ahead of our appointment, but that gave us time to find a parking place in the neighborhood (NOT an easy thing in TA!) and to have lunch at a cafe on nearby Diezengof Street. I had the "Roots Salad" and David had whole wheat penne in a yam cream sauce. Both were good!
After the appointment, we headed on home, only stopping for fuel, sodas, and to pee. We got home just before 7:30 this evening.
My shoulder felt quite a bit better on Shabbat than it had on Friday, and today it continued to improve. It's still somewhat sore, though.
