I slept fairly well last night, but I didn't fall asleep easily, and I had quite a bit of pain when I woke in the middle of the night. I was finally able to get the pain to subside enough to fall back asleep by lying on my back for a while. The pain medicine is just NOT working as well as it did at first. I made another appointment with my doctor on Sunday so I can discuss it with him.
I spent almost the whole day working on my code for Algorithmic Thinking. For this part of the project, we implement 2 different algorithms for finding which 2 points out of a collection in the 2D plane are closest together. The first algorithm uses brute force -- i.e. it just simply compares every pair of points. The second is more sophisticated and complicated, but it is more efficient, at least theoretically. We were given pseudo-code for both of them -- we just need to translate it into Python. My problem is that my "fast" one is actually significantly SLOWER than the slow one, and I can NOT figure out why! Basically, I'm just giving up for now and going on to the rest of the project.
For lunch today, we ate more of the food we had brought home from Buddha Burgers' feast.
This morning I walked down to recycle the cardboard boxes, but I couldn't get challah, of course, because the bakery is closed for the holiday (2nd day of Rosh HaShana). I did stop at the candy store, though, and bought us a nice honey cake. After lighting candles, sipping wine, and eating a bit of bread (instead of challah) to welcome Shabbat, we each had a piece of the cake.
