I'm finally back to writing here. They successfully removed my prostate on the 17th, but they had some difficulty stitching the urethra back together again. This caused the surgery to last longer than expected, and so they sent me to intensive care afterwards instead of to the recovery room.
Just as they feared, the bladder had a hole that was leaking urine into the abdomen, so I had a 2nd surgery on Friday the 20th to fix that. It was successful, so I was finally ready to start the recovery process. On Sunday the 22nd, they finally transferred me back to the urology unit.
At first, I felt so exhausted that I couldn't stand without help and could hardly eat at all. But then my strength began returning rapidly. I could eat and enjoyed all my food (I have always liked hospital food). I started walking, first on my unit but gradually expanding to more floors and exploring more and more of the hospital. Today I even went outside for the first time.
They would have already sent me home if I had lived nearby, but I really didn't want to fly home with a catheter, so they agreed to keep me here until it is taken out, 10 days after the (2nd) operation. Out it comes tomorrow, and I'll be on my way back to sunny Eilat!
I walked a total of 4.3 kilometers today.
